The largest amethyst geode in the world was
found in December 2006
in the Galerias Santiños Mine in Uruguay
The mine where the geode was found

It took several months to excavate and prepare the geode.

The preparation was done in a special shed where a team of miners carefully opened the front of the geode by carefully removing pieces of amethyst to expose the inside. The sides of the geode are polished, showing some nice agate patterns.
Pieces of this largest geode in the world are still available.

The Empress was packed in a crate to fit in a special container.
It arrived safely in Atherton after a 2 month journey from Montevideo.
The Grand opening was on the15 th of Dec.2007, by the Minister for Tourism Queensland.

Magic ! - Look at the hand of the girl touching
